WE WORK FOR YOU!
EQUAL project FAMILY UNIVERSE – innovative strategy in academic organization.
Family – work reconciliation on the basis of mainstreaming gender equality is not on
adverse strategy, but forms a vehicle of reach change. Most European universities were
founded in the Middle age and remanded sexist environment which confront developments like
globalization, Europeanization, women’s scientist career, competitiveness, work- life
balance.
The claim for gender quality, as well as demands to make better use of women’s
potential in order to promote excellence, has become louder. The low percentage of female
scientists, especially in the senior positions, contrasts with the increasing gender
balance in the academic community.
No matter in which department or discipline you are working, if you are in any way
involved in developing – either as an academic leader, manager, teacher or scientist – for
you the challenge is to jump in and set yourself to mainstream!
Does all university structure and policy strategies are organized in such a way, so that
they equally serve the needs and interests of women and men?
EQUAL project FAMILY UNIVERSE is based on transforming capacity
– i. e. we treat individuals as whole persons. Each individual, either male or female, has different roles, different aspiration and different abilities, both in and outside the workplace.
? Treating employees as whole person implies taking into account these aspects in their labor conditions. We examine innovative family friendly organization strategy at the Điauliai University.

Family friendly environment can be achieved by facilities like
work – life balancing measures – flexible working known, part-time arrangements, child care
facilities, enabling to take parental leave – and offering time, room space and child care
facilities for lifelong learning, for a work family reconciliation.
Presenteism and the “long hour’s culture” still flourish in so
many academic institutions. The obligation of employers as regards working conditions,
recruitment and equal pay are set out in more detailed regulations, but a great deal
undoubtedly remains to be done
